Item description: Up for sale rare very early and oversized vintage MABIE TODD « SWAN » ETERNAL 444C/60 fountain pen, with SWAN ETERNAL #4 14ct gold smooth with good tipping nib. This pen was made in ENGALND dates back to the 1920-30’s. The pen is very well preserved. It can fit as a valuable addition and would grace any collection, and is a quality pen that will perfectly function, as a daily writer. In superior condition from the late 1920s. « SWAN » ETERNAL 444C/60: The first 4 denotes the nib size, the second indicates unusual bands, in this case “stacked coin” bands at the crown and near the lip of the cap. The third 4 shows that this pen began life with an Eternal nib, which it still has. The suffix “C” is probably for celluloid (there were also BHR made), and suffix “60” is for the black color. Eternal nibs were top of the range of Mabie Todd nibs. « Eternal » means long-lasting and unlikely to be damaged by heavy-handed writers. At 13.6cm capped and 17.0cm posted, this is a big and bulky pen, though it isn’t heavy. Even posted, it’s light and well-balanced in the hand, with this size and the “stacked coin” bands it’s a pen made to be noticed but it’s fully practical as well.
